Professor X's self help book for the gifted

I'm getting bored. My options are..

1) Sleep it off
2) Make music
3) Buy some self help book (again)

I'm having trouble sleeping, thanks to a built in "dream" cable inside my head, i get weird channels once i hit the sack. (I once got a "Discovery-ESPN" crossover, dinosaurs playing tennis.. )

Music, hmm, I've been doing that quite a lot lately, probably time to let it rest for a while.

So I'm left with one option. I went to Times this lunch and took this off the shelf without so much thinking what I was buying..

..it actually took me longer to pick one with less folds/creases/dirt and what have you.

Ok he's not exactly your Professor X look alike (if you're still wondering who Professor X is, SHAME ON YOU!!! No I'm not providing you a wiki link this time, loser :P) X-Men's mentor who supposedly perished in X-Men 3: The Last Stand (spoiler aler.. ah nevermind, I'm probably the last soul to have seen it anyway) always has this troubled-oh-man-sooner-or-later-Magneto's-gonna-kick-my-ass look on his face. A true mentor indeed.

This dude on the cover, on the other hand, has a a somewhat comforting smile, and is very confident and proud of his bald head. It's a tactic. You plaster your face on half of the book's cover so onlooking buyers would want to turn the cover page quickly, just so they won't have to see it. He got me.

I quickly scanned the book and he seems to be on to something. Apparently he's also the author of a bestseller book called "The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari". An intriguing title. If this one I just bought is good, I might buy that one too. I mean, if a monk can get a Ferrari, what more for a budding IT professional like me right?

I probably need to get a Times discount card.

300

I was never a history buff, nor a fan of Frank Miller (the guy who drew "Sin City", yeah the movie with Jessica *hot* Alba dancing on it). But this movie trailer has somehow gripped me..

..hmm, probably has to do with the background music? Which is Nine Inch Nails' "Just Like You Imagined".

Hmm yeah, probably has a lot to do with that. But the trailer's equally appealing, so we'll see. March next year hehe.

Leave Me Alone!!

Apparently some people are getting pissed that I'm a very difficult person to invite.

If I see anyone showing any bit of resentment towards me for being..

1) content and happy having lunch by myself,
2) going straight home after a Friday night (or any non-working day/night for that matter),
3) glued to my office seat, not minding any "teabreak" invites,
4) insensitive to appointment schedules (due to the fact that I keep forgetting them),

..he will go straight to my hate list, which has just recently been emptied.

yeah I'm a difficult person. I do acknowledge the fact that you remember me, that you have to believe. I just like to be alone, that's all.

As the song goes..

R-E-S-P-E-C-T!!

Amano on Vista

Yesterday, for the third time, I went to a Microsoft tech talk. As usual, one of the talks was about the upcoming Windows Vista (the next Windows OS) and the prowess of the WPF (Windows Presentation Foundation). They also gave out Vista RC1 installers. At the moment, Vista is on RC2 (Release Candidate 2). For those who don't want to be bothered by what a Release Candidate means, it's basically a version of a software, in Microsoft terms, that is viable for release. It means it's almost as good as the final release, but not quite. If you ask me, it still should be called a BETA version. Whether this RC term was invented by software developers or by marketers, I don't know. I don't really care.

That night, I contemplated whether I should install the Vista RC, or just let it gather dust again (as the Beta installer did, obtained from a previous tech talk). It's gonna expire on June 2007 anyway, and the final Vista release isn't that far away. But all these tech talk events got the best of me, and decided to install the thing on a separate partition, so I can still boot the old Windows XP. I have a 100Gig hardrive after all O-O

I took a good look at Amano. (Oh yeah, in case you haven't been reading, I named the laptop Amano, after the Japanese artist Yoshitaka Amano).

Hmm, he could use a good OS revamp. (That white glare from the monitor... is my good AURA reflecting).

I bought some stuff to munch on, in case something bad happens during the install.

Yeah, that Snickers bar was over before you can say Snickers.

Here's the installer. Any good ol' geek would be proud enough to post a picture such as this...

...well not all actually, just the worse ones lol!

After 10 years, the thing finally installed on a 15Gig partition. Bless Bill Gates.

How serene. Haha! Installed without a hitch. It's running quite nicely too! Here are some snapshots.

Those small thingies on the right hand side of the desktop are called "Gadgets". Obviously a rip off of Mac OSX's "Widgets". In there currently is an analog clock, a picture slideshow, and a notes stick on similar to post-its. I like it!!! Of course these pictures don't do justice to what Vista can actually do, so just click here if you want to learn more.

Tonight I might start learning how to create those gadgets. And next week probably start programming in WPF. Ok I'm not doing this out of pure personal pleasure if any of you are shaking your heads in pity :P Mediacorp (Singapore's somewhat sole media giant) is actually interested in this (WPF) and gadgets, and a colleague has actually went to training with some Mediacorp people on this technology. So might as well grab this opportunity and hopefully catch some attention. We are an IT arm of Mediacorp after all.

So where do all of these lead to? Mediacorp notices, we start some projects, the developer in 1-Net becomes famous, developer sends some demo songs to Mediacorp people, developer gets backing, someone in the music industry FINALLY notices, band becomes rockstars.

That's the bottomline of it all. Really. BwahahAHAH! Rock on!!

(That's the way to end a geeky blogpost)

Supposed Beef with Oyster Sauce

Marinated 2 packs of beef in oyster sauce and some other stuff (garlic/ginger). Bought some asparagus too. (The beef came in cubes, I think they should be in strips, I don't care :P)

Dump 'em and stir fry

Oh I was also clumsy enough to burst open a pack of corn flour and it exploded everywhere. I cleaned everything real quick I forgot to take a picture argh!!! Anyway here's what it looked like (pardon my photshop skills)

Before..

After

After all the trouble, I finally got to eat. It looks like.... foood! haAHAHhAHAh :P

That evening we went to cheng's 1st (DT) gig with her band Prognosis in Gashaus. They totally rocked.

Pizza Medicine

I've been mysteriously getting dizzy this past week. I found myself moving much slower than usual, to keep the ground from shaking. I think too much work has taken its toll. So I decided to refuel. 10 inch Four Seasons pizza from Pasta Mania, all to myself. I didn't have much time to read through the menu to check the ingredients. I think the cash register clerk can sense my immediate need for sustenance, as I nodded my way through all his inquiries, and acknowledged the "$12.30". At my state, any price would have sufficed.

It's up there because I managed to grab the opportunity of being one of the early uploaders on this new rating site.
